Hurricane Cocktail

This post shows you how to make this most iconic libation from one of our most happy places in the world: New Orleans!

The two kinds of rum, combined with the fruit juices over a tall glass of ice just screams refreshment!

The Ingredients You Will Need

  1. Dark Rum
  2. White Rum
  3. Simple Syrup
  4. Passion Fruit Juice
  5. Lime Juice
  6. Grenadine
  7. Orange slice and maraschino cherries (for garnish)

Ever been to Pat O’Brien’s in the French Quarter? It’s great. Overrun with tourists, but still cool.  While you are there, try their alligator bites.  

A true NOLA classic dish that may sound strange, but really tasty!  Don’t you just love New Orleans?

A HURRICANE COCKTAIL IS REFRESHING AND BEAUTIFUL, TOO

This Hurricane Cocktail always brings us back to the Big Easy. Don’t overdo it with the alcohol, and these are perfect for sipping poolside, or at a fun gathering of friends.

We love a classic hurricane cocktail, and now you can see how easy they are to make at home! Remember to drink responsibly!

Hurricane Cocktail

This Hurricane Cocktail is the classic libation born at the legendary Pat O’Brien’s restaurant and bar in the French Quarter in New Orleans.  Refreshing and delicious.  Make this drink and be transported down to the Big Easy!

Ingredients

  • 2 oz white rum
  • 2 oz dark rum
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • 1 oz orange juice
  • 2 oz passion fruit juice
  • ½ oz simple syrup
  • ½ oz Grenadine
  • Orange wheel for garnish
  • Maraschino cherry for garnish

Instructions

  • Add all the ingredients to your shaker filled with ice.
  • Shake and then strain into a large glass (preferably a hurricane glass) filled with ice.
  • Garnish with half of an orange wheel and a maraschino cherry.

Notes

This recipe can be made in bulk and kept in a pitcher to serve a group. It can be made up to 24 hours in advance. Keep in a pitcher (covered) in the fridge until ready to use.

    Most passion fruit juice /or concentrate you will find on the web may taste bitter. Best thing to use in place of it is just plain old Welches Passion Fruit Juice you find in the supermarket. It’s not pure passion fruit as it’s blended with a little grape juice as well. But it does the job & it tastes great!
